Where to Après in Breckenridge
If you ski and you’re over 21, chances are you’ve heard of “apres ski.” If not, you will. Just go to the bar in Breckenridge, Colo. named appropriately “Apres.” For many skiers and snowboarders, the apres part of skiing – the part that comes after the turns on the hill, is just as important, if not more important than the actual skiing and snowboarding. For others, it’s just icing on the cake for a perfect ski trip.
If you’re looking for the apres action in Breck, we have you covered with our favorite spots:
If you’re looking for the hot spot, just ski down to the base of Peak 8, click out of your skis (or snowboard) and grab a seat on the patio or inside at the bar. The TBar is located right there at the edge of the snow, just steps away from the Rocky Mountain SuperChair, the Colorado SuperChair and the BreckConnect Gondola. The spot offers the best people watching for apres, especially with views of the famed Freeway Terrain Park, and everyone raves about the waffle fries, chicken wings and wide selection of beers on tap.
Located just outside of town on Airport Road, the Breckenrige Distillery guarantees one thing – really, really fresh bourbon and spirits. As the world’s highest distillery, they make Bourbon Whiskey, Spiced Whiskey, Gin, Spiced Rum, Bitter, Vodka – including flavored vodka like pear, the unique chili chile and espresso. If you’re an aficionado, stop by for a tour and tasting. They’re offered every day of the week during “peak” hours. Check in advance for the times (they vary per season). And, then stay to nosh on some of their tasty appetizers and entrees in their stylish, open-air restaurant where the focus is on small plates and family style meals. As 5280 Magazine said: “Go for the drink and stay for the food—it’s an experience I bet you’ll duplicate every time you’re in Breckenridge”
Coppertop Bar and Restaurant at Beaver Run
If you ski anywhere near the base of Peak 9, you can’t miss the scene at Coppertop. Located slopeside at the Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center, this ski-in, ski-out bar and restaurant features a sunny patio and, usually, a lively crew. During spring break, you’ll hear the live music and cheers from the rowdy crowd. Rest assured, this is still a family-friendly spot. You can find quiet spots away from the bars in the spacious restaurant. Or, check out Beaver Run’s arcade with the kiddos while the parents enjoy an after-skiing cocktail or beer.
You can’t go wrong with a place that’s consistently rated as having the best bartenders and mixologists in town. Modis prides itself on its craft cocktails. They look as delicious as they taste and it’s entertaining to watch the experts behind the bar mix, pour, shake, stir and concoct the best cocktails in town. With two daily happy hours, you can get more bang – or cocktails – for your buck. And, the appetizers at Modis are artfully prepared to pair with your cocktails (or vice versa). Ask the servers or the mixologists for their recommendations on cocktails and food pairings.
New to the scene, Robbie’s Tavern is located in the impressive Grand Colorado on Peak 8 lodging property right at the base of Peak 8. This is a locally-owned bistro just steps away from the high-speed chairlifts and the BreckConnect Gondola. This is a more upscale option with a solid wine list and a tasty selection of craft beers with a stunning view.
No matter where you choose to celebrate after your day of skiing or snowboarding, raise your glass and toast your good fortunate to be in Breck with good friends and family. Because, after all, that’s the best part of any ski trip.
