Five Reasons Why We Love Breck

We love Breck. We know you do, too. That’s why we compiled a list of the top five reasons we love this fun-loving, quirky town. If we missed any of your favorite reasons, let us know: 970.368.4818 or Stay@VisitBreckenridge.Com. We’ll update this post with your recommendations.

1. Quirky events

You know you’re in a place that takes winter celebrations seriously when they host a festival to honor and celebrate Ullr, the Norse god of snow. Appropriately named Ullr Fest, the week-long celebration is held in January and features a parade, bonfire and the Ullympics. Get into the spirit and wear your own Viking helmet, do a snow dance and “pray for snow.”

Ullr Fest is just one of Breck’s festive events in the winter. Don’t forget about the Dew Tour, the Race of the Santas, the International Snow Sculpture Championships and Spring Fever.

2. A colorful downtown

Breckenridge, or as the locals fondly call it “Breck,” is a true ski town. The town’s Main Street intersects with the mountain at the south end of town and the BreckConnect Gondola is only one block from Main Street, which means you can almost ski right back into town. And, while après ski might start at the base of the mountain (at the popular TBar on Peak 8), it quickly extends to the entire town. There’s so much to do and see, we highly recommend carving out time to just stroll down Main Street to shop, window shop and people watch. If you’re artistic, swing by Ready, Paint, Fire studio to make your own souvenir to take home (and grab a drink for the 21-and-over crowd) or browse the used book collection at Ole Man Berkins. The Crown Coffee Shop is a favorite spot to stop for a hot cocoa.

3. Lodging options galore

One of the best parts about Breck is that there are a lot of options for places to stay and rest your head. While there aren’t many luxury hotel properties, there are a bounty full of condos, townhomes and private homes to rent that range from budget-friendly to downright opulent. Many of them are ski-in, ski-out or on the free ski resort shuttle bus route. 4. Friendly vibe

Breckenridge is not Aspen. And, it’s proud not to be considered pretentious or snooty. There’s a welcoming, come-as-you-are vibe in town. In fact, the Town of Breckenridge and the tourism office host regular guest service trainings to ensure that all of the businesses and organizations are focused on rolling out the welcome mat, helping guests and providing the best possible service.

We, here at VisitBreckenridge.com, strive to provide you with the best possible guest service. If we can ever help with any questions or local recommendations, please contact us: 970.368.4818  or Stay@VisitBreckenridge.Com. We’re here for you!

5. So much to do

There’s so much to do, we create an entire guide for our favorite non-skiing activities. Email us to get a copy: Stay@VisitBreckenridge.Com

While most people come to ski and snowboard in the winter, we recommend spending some time enjoying the other activities in Breck that don’t get as much fanfare, like snowshoeing, ice skating, art classes, sleigh rides, winter hiking, fat biking, yoga, indoor rock climbing, fly fishing (yes, you can still fish in the winter) and dog sledding.
