Breckenridge Colorado is a world-renowned ski destination. Popular for all its winter sporting activities, but its alpine and Nordic skiing among the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains is spectacular.
Nordic skiing or cross-country skiing is a sport that not only gives you a great workout but can also be done at your own pace, which allows for other freedoms that other winter activities might not.
For instance, it creates a great atmosphere for group activity. If you want to socialize while participating in your activity the group more or less stays together. The other benefits are that cross-country skiing can be done at any pace, so dogs and children can easily be a part of the fun. Many people allow their dogs to run with them while they cross-country ski much like they would do on a hike in the summertime. And most kids will welcome the opportunity to get out and glide through the snow any day of the week.
And certainly some might agree that shopping is half the fun of vacationing, cross-country skiing doesn’t require the investment in technical gear as other winter sports might require. You will need to layer up meaning you’ll need a base layer, mid layer (wool shirt, a sweater or fleece jacket) and some kind of jacket. Add gloves, a hat and a bottom layer that’s breathable, as well as thick socks and a pair of sunglasses — and you’re set.
The Breckenridge Nordic Center with its enchanted forests and epic mountain views is a family friendly destination that offers 1,400 acres of carefully groomed trails. If you are an experienced skier stop by to get your pass, the trails start right from the lodge. If you are interested in instruction, guided adventure tours are available to take you through the beautiful winter wonderland. They also provide information on the history and legends of the forests.
Gold Run Nordic Center
The Gold Run Nordic Center at the Breckenridge Recreation Department has 30,000 of groomed classic and skate cross-country ski trails and offers ski lessons for all abilities. Many people comment on how much easier it is to take in the beautiful scenery while cross-country skiing being able to stop and admire the views whenever you want.
